On Wednesday night (17 April) the Inn again came to the rescue, this time with countless mugs of tea and the use of its car-park! Many fire engines of various sizes descended on the Inn to use it as a Command Centre in fighting several different nearby moorland fires. Police were investigating the probability that the fires were started deliberately. Cornwall Fire Service also used Jamaica Inn’s Residents' Lounge as a temporary Communications Centre pending arrival of their own Comms vehicle from Lands End. Chef Ashley Brown supplied tea into the early hours and it was he that stayed up all night manning the kitchen when the blizzard hit 2 months ago and the Inn became a refuge for over 100 stranded motorists! It was reported that around 80 firefighters tackled the blazes which were all put out by dawn.
