A complete refurbishment of the bars and restaurant was finished just in time for Christmas. In lower Pedlars Restaurant we replaced the modern windows with period ones to match those at the front of the Inn, and created a massive old-looking fireplace built in traditional Cornish style – the granite slab mantlepiece alone weighs 1.1 tons and has come from Bradstone Mill near Launceston. The fireback weighing 441lbs is from a French chateau and is dated 1751 - just after Jamaica Inn first became a hostelry in 1750. All furniture has been replaced with a stylish antique-looking eclectic mix that has received many compliments. It seems we have successfully performed the tricky juggling act of installing new furniture while making the Inn look even older!
