On May 13th we sponsored a wonderful day, all in the memory of Daphne Du Maurier at the Fowey Festival.
This year the du Maurier lecture and luncheon, welcomes guest speaker Andrew Graham, son of Poldark novelist Winston Graham OBE. Amongst other speakers this year was Terry Waite CBE, Penny Junor, Judy Finnigan, Dr Ian Mortimer, Patrick Gale and Linda Grant. It was a full day of du Maurier events with talks, panel discussions and workshops.
Judy Finnigan and Richard Madeley joined us all for lunch to chat about Judys latest book "I do not sleep" which talks about the notorious Jamaica Inn where her book is set.
The day also showcased the du Maurier Big Read which was a 24 hour reading relay of Daphne du Maurier’s books. It took place at the Old Quay House Hotel, Fore Street. The read started at 10.00am on the anniversary of Daphne’s birth and finished at 10.00am on the following day. Volunteers read aloud for an hour at a time and then handed over to another reader. Each hourly session was to be verified by two independent observers as they strive to gain a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
As you may be aware we house some wonderful memorabilia ourselves, kindly donated by her family which can be seen in our museum.
