At last the BBC have announced their screening of Jamaica Inn, their long awaited 3 part adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s classic novel, which will be on BBC 1 on Easter Monday at 9pm and on the following 2 consecutive evenings. The Inn was the inspiration for the novel and was much loved by Dame Daphne herself. To celebrate this drama series why not see it at the real Jamaica Inn where there will be live screenings on large TVs, an optional special dinner as well as new ales and wines creating 3 spectacular evenings.
The classic novel has been adapted by Emma Frost, writer of The White Queen and was directed by BAFTA-winning director Phillippa Lowthrope (Call the Midwife). Set in 1821 against the backdrop of the forbidding Cornish moors, the story follows the journey of the young and spirited Mary Yellan who is forced to live with her Aunt Patience at the inn after the death of her mother. Staring Jessica Brown Findlay (Downton Abbey), along with a host of other British stars including Matthew McNulty (The Paradise, Room at the Top) as Jem Merlyn and Sean Harris (The Borgias, Southcliffe) as Joss Merlyn.
